About the induction

Baby's still not ready. Doctor said that even if she wanted to strip my membranes (break my water) today, she couldn't. She was going to try, but I asked her if we could just wait until Sunday if Baby and I weren't in any danger, just because I still feel really yucky with my cold. Still coughing, sore throat, and today I'm super croaky. If it was all right, I wanted to wait in hopes that I would at least feel better by the weekend. She said that was fine and I was quite relieved. Plus, as I said before, even if she wanted to, she couldn't induce me today because my insides are not making the changes they should be. I guess I didn't even ask what the results of the Non-Stress Test were, but they must have been good because nothing was mentioned about it.

After the exam we talked more about the induction. It was going to all start at 11:00 on Sunday morning. She'd break my water and hopefully I'd deliver that night or on Monday. I've heard that the average labor time for inductions is 12 hours, but sometimes more. However, as we were talking about the process, she decided that she might not be able to just break my water like originally intended, if my cervix hasn't made the appropriate changes. (Is that too much info? Sorry.) She then would have to give me a pill called Cytotec and wait for my cervix to change before breaking my water. If that doesn't work, then they give me Pitocin through an IV. Pitocin is not fun, from what I've read and been told. Contractions come hard and fast-usually resulting in enough pain to beg for an epidural. My tune has officially changed. I'm sick. I'm exhausted now, and likely to be then. Pitocin is in the picture. Sign me up.

Since it sounds like a lengthy process, and she happens to be quite busy at Noon on Monday, we're going to start it earlier, just in case. Instead of Sunday morning, I will go into the hospital on Saturday evening, the 28th, at 8:00pm. They'll administer the pill, put me on monitors, and see how things go from there. Sounds like an all night business, which I'm not excited about. I'm foggy on the details, but it doesn't sound like a restful night's sleep. If things go slowly, maybe I'll be able to sleep Saturday night and then things will start happening Sunday morning. As long as I'm planning this whole thing, I might as well plan it how I want it, right? Ha. In any case, it appears as if I'll get my March baby. I guess it's 3 days away so anything could happen, but that's what it's looking like. Oh, and the best part is that 20% of inductions fail, resulting in a Cesarean section anyway. To go through all that labor and then end up having to have a c-section? I'd rather just pick one or the other. I'm sure it will be fine.

Until then, I'm just going to try to keep resting and getting better. Sorry to those of you who have called in the evenings. The past two days I've gone straight home to bed, gotten up for just enough time to make and eat something, and then gone right back to bed for the night. Evidently I've needed it, because I'm still tired at work in spite of getting 14 hours of sleep in a day. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts and well-wishes. I'll continue to keep you updated tomorrow and Friday if something happens. Saturday too, hopefully. Big weekend ahead.

Have you tried raspberry leaf tea? I am telling you it works. It softens your uterus making it easier for your water to break. I had good results from it and have heard good results from it. I told my friend about it and like within two days of drinking it she went into labor. (she was late also) It puts you into contractions. I hope it works for you so at least maybe you will go into labor on your own.

*EDIT* It strengthens your uterus bringing on contractions and softens your cervix. :) That's a better explanation.

Forgot to add that if you post on either of my blogs you might want to post as anonymous since I have some visitors that I don't "know" and I'm thinking you probably want to keep your blog more private. :) Just a thought.
